Christmas Concert Info

Our classes have been busy working on our musical “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.

For the concert on December 14th (1pm and 7pm), students are requested to wear his/her fancy Christmas outfit (if they have one), black, or black and white.

In addition to this, a pop of colour has been assigned to each class. These items can include leg warmers, scarves, beanies, hats (please no ball caps), dresses, pants, shirts, etc. Patterned (e.g. stripes, polka dots) items are fine if the assigned colour is the dominant one.

Grade 2P and 2F students will be wearing red and green. Students can chose one or both colours.

- Shirts with pictures can be worn inside out.
- Michaels has inexpensive solid colour t-shirts available.
- Who-ville styled hair (crazy, Dr. Suess hair).

November

Wow - what a busy month! It is hard to believe that we are already into November! October was a very busy month - from Thanksgiving, collecting socks for the less fortunate, parent-teacher conferences, and having some fun dressing up for Halloween. Time flies when you are having fun!

Although it was mentioned in our newsletter, I would like to remind parents to make sure that your child is wearing appropriate winter gear - that includes snow pants, mitts, hats and boots. I know that winter seems to have snuck up on us - but students go outside for 3 recesses during the day and we DO NOT have indoor recess unless it is colder than -20!

Students in 2F have been busy working on a variety of things.

In LA - we have been busy working on our CAFE reading strategies - with a focus on picking good fit books and accuracy as we read. In Grade 2 we are building upon the reading skills from Grade 1 - please do not be alarmed if your child does not move up in levels as quickly as they may have in Grade 1. As students begin to read for understanding they will not be expected to move levels as quickly. When reading with your child - ask them questions about what they read or try to make a connection with something that your child can relate to in their life. These connections are important when it comes to comprehension. It is important that your child read every day so that they can practice their reading skills. Thank you to those of you who have made a commitment to home reading - this is essential to each child's success as a reader and we appreciate your support. In writing, we are still working on creating sentences with proper use of capitals and punctuation. We have been trying to make our sentences more interesting by adding adjectives. We are beginning to work on sequencing and will be completing some "how to" writing assignments.

In Science, we continue to study "Bugs" - and will be looking more in depth at Spiders, Ants, Worms and Bees. Students will be expected to complete a mini-quiz on each animal and we will be comparing the animals to each other.

This Friday, I will be away, however a fabulous sub who is familiar to the students will be in our class. There will be a  Remembrance Day Ceremony that morning that will begin at 10:00 AM.
