Welcome Back

Happy New Year!

Well - we have survived our first week back! I am not sure who was more exhausted getting back into the routine of things - myself or some of the students! With the cold weather - we have had indoor recesses all week! Students have been very cooperative in finding quiet activities to work on during recess time. One thing that I would like to remind all parents is to send in proper outdoor weather gear - including toques, mitts and snow pants - everyday. Normally students go out for recess 3 times per day - morning, lunch and afternoon. A number of our students have been coming to school without snow pants. Going out to play without snow pants students get cold, and/or get wet from falling or crawling in the snow.

We spent this first week getting used to being back in the classroom and following classroom routines and expectations.

In Language Arts, we completed a spelling assessment to determine the spelling needs of the students at this point. Some students will change groups depending on their needs. We also spent some time writing about our holidays and talking/writing about goals/New Year resolutions. I enjoy hearing what each student thinks that they should work on at school, at home and for themselves. And of course, we read every day to practice our reading strategies!

In Science, we continued exploring magnetism. We spent some time reviewing what we had learned before Christmas. Students are learning about polarity, attraction and repelling, as well as what type of materials are magnetic. Students particularly enjoyed getting to test out magnets with different materials.

Have a fabulous Friday!
